‘’Samantha has a beautiful voice and gives as much passion to a piece of Dowland as she does a musical theatre number’’
Timothy Rhys Evans MBE
I grew up in Somerset and attended Backwell School & Sixth Form where I had the privilege of being taught by renowned singing teacher Lorraine Worley.
During this time i was a member of the Bristol Light Opera Company and also regularly competed in the Bristol Eisteddfod of Music, Speech and Drama winning and placed in several categories. Played the parts of Annie and Pepper at the Weston Playhouse and the part of Belinda Crachett alongside Anthony Newley in Scrooge at the Bristol Hippodrome.
In 2002 I took the ABRSM grade 8 classical singing exam passing with merit and after completing A-Levels, which included Music, Drama and Photography, I was awarded a place in the Welsh National Opera (youth section) with whom I performed for 3 years, under the musical direction of Timothy Rhys-Evans MBE. Performance credits include, Magnificat, Dido and Aeneas, A Beggars Opera and The Elixer of Love.
As well as singing, I also have a passion for song writing and writing music and in 2005 I accepted an unconditional offer to study a degree in Music at the Paul McCartney School, LIPA, specialising in Voice. Although classically trained, I was eager to increase my knowledge of contemporary vocal techniques and studied with SLS certified vocal coach Ian Davidson. In 2008 I graduated with a 2:1 in Music and the University invited me to teach singing as part of their 4-19 Academy.
A move to London then followed where I worked professionally for over 10 years as a soloist, backing vocalist and vocal arranger. I also ran and fronted my own band singing at weddings and large cooperate events. Notable performance credits include, performing for Michael Owen, Brittany Ferries, Goodwood House and Racing, The Grand National, MITE, Chester Race Course, Chatsworth House, The Liverpool Echo, Chester Business Awards, The Gherkin London, The Principality Awards, Cardiff City Hall, The Royal Variety Show, Liverpool Philharmonic, Cadagan Hall and the Arts Club London.
Alongside performing i taught singing lessons and now live in Wiltshire with my husband and daughter and focus purely on teaching rather than performing. I love teaching and am passionate about inspiring others to sing to the best of their ability and promoting the benefits of singing.
I teach from a dedicated music space within my home and have a extensive collection of repertoire/ sheet music/backing tracks etc.
ALL ages and abilities are welcome, all you need is a love of singing and a desire to learn!
